This Swiss Chard grows in a variety of colours that include brilliant gold, vibrant orange, soft pink, and ruby red. Even the leaves have drastically different tones from forest green with burgundy hues to a soft and elegant spring green.
This is a bolt resistant variety and is suitable for growth in warm and cool climates. It can be directly sown in the garden bed and germinates easily so you don't need to prepare the seedlings inside. It also tolerates mild end of season frosts fairly well.
This beautiful selection is an AAS award winner and was bred by the late, visionary breeder, John Eaton.
Sow indoors 2-3 weeks before last frost. Makes an excellent cool weather crop.
Cutting mature plants back to approximately 12cm (4-5") in height will initiate new growth. Also excellent as a colorful micro-green.
Spacing: Distribute seed 7.5cm (3") apart. Once germinated thin to 9-22cm (6-9") apart. At this point the color of each seedling will be apparent. This will allow you to select for color as you thin.
Recommended germination method: Direct sow into soil 1.25-2.5cm (.5-1") deep
Germination temperature range: 12°C-21°C (53.5°F-69.8°F)
Optimum germination temperature: 29.5°C (85°F)
